Gentlemania – Ne-Yo Live In KL
Gentlemania – Ne-Yo Live In KL
‘Twas indeed the Year of the Gentleman as Ne-Yo took over his adoring fans at the Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach with his charming serenades and uber slick dance moves. Gliding across the stage, he exuded the right amount of swagger, charisma and gentlemanly talk to pull the audience right in.
With all the excitement and anticipation, the crowd cheered and screamed (read: shrieked, come on, imagine the cute little girls) as the concert kicked off. Prem and Hafiz from FlyFm entertained the crowd as they were the host for the night and as for the opening act, local nu-jazz soul singer Najwa Mahiaddin belted out a few tunes.
The lights were dimmed. There was an echoing sound of a pulsating heartbeat. Gradually slowing down, it went flat. No sign of Ne-Yo yet but as the crowd was still busy catching their breath, the gentleman, along with his talented eight-piece band, the D-Boys and his sexy female dancers kicked off the showcase.
The multi-talented Grammy winner and R&B superstar dedicated his performance to his idol Michael Jackson before crooning many of his own tracks including ‘Because Of You’, ‘Sexy Love’, ‘Part Of The List’, ‘Fade Into The Background’, ‘So Sick’, ‘Do You’, ‘Miss Independent’ and many more. Besides being a singer, Ne-Yo demonstrated his theatrical skills as he performed a well-choreographed skit to the song “Fade Into The Background”, a tune about a man witnessing the marriage of an ex-lover.
After a few tracks, Ne-Yo invited his protégé, 24-year-old Jadyn Maria who was part of his Year Of The Gentleman Tour. The Puerto Rican beauty belted out her debut single, Good Girls Like Bad Boys.
Besides the songs sung by him, Ne-Yo also performed tunes written for other artists such as Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable”, Mario’s “Let Me Love You”, Rihanna’s “Take A Bow” and his collaborative effort with Keri Hilson and Kanye West called “Knock You Down”. While Ne-Yo went backstage for a costume change, the D-Boys turned the heat up one notch higher as they played the King of Pop’s classic numbers like “Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough” and “Beat It”.
Well, Mr. Ne-Yo, you should have came to KL a long time back but it’s all good, cause now, since you know what you’ve been missing all this while, we bet you’d be back. On a more personal note, we at Fluxed! would really love to have a second glimpse of the gentleman back on our shores! You could never know; we just might be the best thing he never knew he needed.
