Kris Allen Live In KL @ The Gardens Hotel, KL

Dubbed to be the “most successful underdog” in American Idol history, especially with what most people would agree – no one remembered who Kris Allen was on the show, which he only managed nine seconds of screen time during the audition whereas his opponent, Adam Lambert, totally dominated the screen. And yet, he won.

Ever since his win, Kris’ been on his toes – he’s been on tour with the rest of the American Idol crew (the top 12), he’s had countless TV appearances on American talk shows like The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, The Late show With David Letterman, Access Hollywood, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Live With Regis And Kelly and Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. He has recently released his debut album, Kris Allen, which has sold over 80,000 copies in its first week, entering the Billboard 200 at No.11. And to date, it has sold around 245,000 copies.

In an interview with The Star newspaper, Kris mentioned that he was looking forward to putting on a great show for his Malaysian fans, something that they’ll remember for a long while. And he certainly delivered! Lucky 1000 people who went for his show recently at The Gardens Hotel couldn’t have agreed more, for sure, judging from the amount of screaming and cheering from the fangirls, and boys. And evidently, Kris Allen is indeed an eye candy to the ladies in the house.

Famous for our Malaysian timing, expectedly there was a long wait for the show to even begin, despite the event organizers have let people in on time. Emcees of the night, JJ and Ean of Hitz.fm showed up on stage and entertained the crowd with their limericks while the crew soundchecked at the same time.  Fans went berserk for a while when free t-shirts are thrown into the crowd, at the same time the emcees stirring sing-alongs to No Boundaries, which has been on repeat in the background.

Finally when the clock ticked at 9pm, Kris appeared on stage. Screaming fans rushed forward to see their Idol closely, who was tapping his dead mic, smiling jovially to the crowd. Kris started his short set as soon as his mic came alive, dropping tracks from his new album such as Red Guitar and the current hit single, Live Like We’re Dying, delivering what was promised – a great performance. And kudos to his very tight band as well, which was simply impressive. Kris pulled a rockstar stunt during the show too, with a little crowsurfing, as well as throwing guitar picks to the crowd.

All in all, Kris has managed a pretty good show and definitely won many hearts of the present females with his passionate performance and showmanship. He ended his set with a cover of The Beatles’ Come Together and left fans wanting for more when he waved goodbye and left the stage. He may lack a certain x-factor, but he certainly owned the stage that day, and that is good enough for his fans.
